In the wonderful world of Facebook APPs one has risen to the top of the pile Zoosk.com. Zoosk, based in San Francisco, calls itself a social dating community and has grown more than 16.5 Million users since its launch in December of 2007. With over 1,500 Facebook dating applications it is a pretty crowded vertical for Apps. I can see how website applications like Hot or Not took off on Facebook Apps but I just dont get how Zoosk made such a run out the gate in such a small amount of time. Zoosk was funded by Amidzad, a technology startup incubator for over 100 companies in Silicon Valley. The Zoosk Platform runs as an application, widget, and embedded feature inside social networks like Bebo, Facebook, Hi5, Friendster and Myspace.

After launching on December 21, 2007, Zoosk boasted 1.8 million installs, with daily traffic ranging in the neighborhood of 200,000 users and 2.5M uniques per month. A lot of growth came on the social networks from the viral mechanisms like invites, access to news feeds, share app to a friend, etc.

In January 2009, nearly 100,000 new users have joined Zoosk each day. New user growth was driven largely among the Facebook community. In addition, 20% of new users joined Zoosk through its website at http://www.zoosk.com. Zoosk is one of the only social dating sites that allows users to seamlessly connect across multiple networks, meaning a Facebook user can interact with a MySpace or Bebo user. Zoosk claims to have made more than 228 million connections for its users already. Users can send messages to others through a wink or a flirt for free. When users send a flirt, they also have the ability to attach a virtual gift, such as a rose or flower bouquet. Virtual gifts are available for purchase with Zoosk Coins, which users can buy through Zoosks online store.

Zoosks Premium Membership allows you the unlimited ability to respond to any flirt, be contacted by any Zoosk member, and can see who has viewed their Date Card. Upgrading members also get premium placement throughout the network, which results in more visibility and ultimately more connections. A Premium Membership will cost you $24.95 per month, with 3-month and 6-month memberships available at discounted rates.

We receive stories everyday from users who share with us how Zoosk has made it easy for them to meet and connect with someone special for a date or long-lasting relationship, said Mehr, CEO of Zoosk. Many never expected they would find a love interest through a social network, but Zoosks unique ability to connect people within the context of their online social networks makes it not only possible, but fun, to meet others in that way.

Zoosk won the 2009 Peoples Choice Open Web Award in the Dating and Romance category. The application is very easy to use and to search through thousands of photo profiles with their zip code search which shows how far in miles each user is to you. Let us know if you have had any positive or negative experiences with the application and if you have met quality people on the site. I found it to be a very addicting site almost as much as Hot or Not when it first launched years ago. Visit the official Zoosk.com website or Zoosk Facebook App or Zoosk on MySpace (need to be logged in to view).

Smoking is yet one of the leading preventable causes of disease. Smoking affects just about every region of your system from your lungs to your eye, and still your kidneys and liver. The biggest risks for smokers are lung cancer and emphysema. People who stop lean to slip into three categories: folk who woke upward one day and stop; folk who arrest a cool and look overly sick to smoke for a few days, so hold it upward; and folk given an ultimatum by a physician. Quitting smoke is a procedure that requires cautious preparation, bravery, discipline, and dedication. There are many techniques that will assist you stop the habit.

Deep breathing perhaps phe single most powerful and important technique quit smoking. Drink lots of water and fluids to help flush out the nicotine and other poisons from your body. Natural methods include acupuncture cessation smoking treatments and hypnosis. Hypnotherapy method is moderately effective in giving up smoking. The smoker, willingly subjects him or herself to a hypnosis session. Medications such are Wellbutrin are also known to help cut down on cigarette cravings. Smoking measure to boost up your war against nicotine may ultimately result in your failure to induce smoking cessation.

Medicines as well as a proper approach are the ultimate requirement which would further pave your way out of the vicious circle of smoking addiction. Other quit smoking techniques when your quit date arrives, throw out anything that reminds you of smoking. Nicotine replacement therapies come in many different forms: skin patches, gum, sprays and inhalers. They have small amounts of nicotine in them and can help take the edge of cravings. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese healing. It uses needles to stimulate energy points in the body. Acupuncture is promoted as a way to reduce cravings.

Withdrawal symptoms in people who quit smoking. Zyban is a prescription antidepressant drug that can reduce the urge to smoke in some people. It is most effective in helping people quit when it is combined with other quit methods like counselling. Do your very best to stay away from alcohol, sugar and coffee the first week or longer, as these tend to stimulate the desire for a cigarette. Avoid fatty foods, as your metabolism will slow down a bit without the nicotine. You can solicit quit smoking support from the American Lung Association. They provide smokers with free literature, and they also sponsor support groups all over the country.

Tuberculosis in Children:
o TB in children is a sentinel event indicating recent transmission, and contacts should be evaluated to find the source case as soon as possible. Fortunately, children commonly do not infect other children because cough is rare and sputum production is scant.

o Diagnosis may be based on the presence of lymphadenopathy on chest radiographs. Most children can be treated with INH and reampin for 6 months, with pyrazinamide for the first 2 months if the culture from the source case is fully susceptible. Gastric aspirates or biopsies are not necessary if cultures can be obtained from the source case.

o In children younger than 5 years, the development of fatal military TB or meningeal TB is a significant concern. TB disease is uncommon in children aged 5 – 15 years (the golden age of childhood).

o INH tablets may be crushed and added to food. INH liquid without sorbitol should be used to avoid osmotic diarrhea, causing decreased food. If rifampin is not tolerated, it may be taken in divided doses 20 minutes after light meals.

o Ethambutol often is avoided in young children because of difficulties monitoring visual acuity and color perception. However, studies show that ethambutol (15 mg/kg) is well tolerated and can prevent further resistance if the child is infected with a resistant strain.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus:
o Patients with TB must be tested for HIV, and patients with HIV need periodic evaluation for TB with tuberculin skin testing and/or chest radiographs. Patients with HIV and a positive tuberculin skin test develop active TB at a rate of 3-16% per year.

o Patients with TB and HIV are more likely to have disseminated disease and less likely to have upper-lobe infiltrates or cavitary pulmonary disease. Patients with a CD4 count of less than 200 may mediastinal adenopathy with infiltrates.

o Treatment regimens for active or latent TB in patients with HIV are similar to the treatment of individuals who are HIV negative. The most significant differences involve the avoidance of rifampin in the patients who are on protease inhibitors or nonnucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors. Rifabutin may
be used in place of rifampin in patients who are on indinavir, or efavirenz.

o Patients with HIV and may develop a paradoxical response when starting antiretroviral therapy. This response has been attributed to a stronger immune response to M Tuberculosis. Clinical findings include fever, worsening pulmonary infiltrates, and lymphadenopathy.

Relafen Generic Name is nabumetone.

Relafen is in a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).Relafen is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by arthritis. Relafen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.RELAFEN (nabumetone) is a naphthylalkanone designated chemically as 4-(6-methoxy-2-naphthalenyl)-2-butanone. Nabumetone is a white to off-white crystalline substance with a molecular weight of 228.3. It is nonacidic and practically insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol and most organic solvents. It has an n-octanol:phosphate buffer partition coefficient of 2400 at pH 7.4. The parent compound is a prodrug, which undergoes hepatic biotransformation to the active component, 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6MNA), that is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis.

Relafen is acidic and has an n-octanol:phosphate buffer partition coefficient of 0.5 at pH 7.4.Free fraction is dependent on total concentration of 6MNA and is proportional to dose over the range of 1,000 mg to 2,000 mg. It is 0.2% to 0.3% at concentrationsNabumetone itself is not detected in the plasma. Approximately 35% of a 1,000-mg oral dose of nabumetone is converted to 6MNA and 50% is converted into unidentified metabolites which are subsequently excreted in the urine. 6MNA is more than 99% bound to plasma proteins. 6MNA exhibits pharmacokinetic characteristics that generally follow a one-compartment model with first order input and elimination.

Relafen medication should not be used certain medical conditions. Relafen cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and tobacco, mostly when combined with this medicine, may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. Before using Relafen tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease and poorly controlled diabetes. Check all prescription and nonprescription medicine labels carefully since many contain pain relievers/fever reducers (NSAIDs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen), which are similar to this drug. Before using Relafen consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: aspirin-sensitive asthma, recent heart bypass surgery.

Uses of Relafen medication

Relafen can be taken with or without food. Take the forgotten dose as soon as you. Never take a double dose.It can be stored at room temperature and Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and away from moist places and direct light.

Side Effects of Relafen medication

Side effects cannot be anticipated. Relafen medication more common serious side effects may include is abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fluid retention, gas, headache, indigestion, itching, nausea, rash and ringing in ears. These side effects are considered serious to Relafen.

Types of Drug Tests
There are six different types of drug tests available to businesses and agencies seeking a Drug Testing service for their employees or other purpose. These drug tests vary in popularity due to how much they cost to perform as well as the type of drug that is being tested for. The typical drug tests that are utilized include:
Urine drug tests
Hair follicle drug tests
Perspiration drug tests
Saliva drug tests
Blood tests
Fingernail Analysis
Urine drug tests are the most common tests. These Drug Tests are capable of identifying a variety of drug metabolites. Typically, testing strips are utilized in a urine test to determine if there are metabolites in the urine. These tests are best for recognizing if a drug has been used within the past week and often longer if the drug is used on a regular basis. These tests are also temperature tested to ensure that the individual did not use a fraudulent urine sample.
Hair tests are much more expensive than a typical urine test. A hair follicle test uses a small hair sample and allows the laboratory to test for substances that have been used long term by an individual. However, these drug tests do not typically allow substances that have been used within the past week to be detected. The unique aspect of hair follicle tests is that a lab can determine when the person began using and stopped using a particular drug. Hair tests require a sample of hair that is 1 inches long and they cannot be performed with only one hair.
Blood tests are the most expensive type of drug test. However, these drug tests are the most conclusive drug tests as they not only determine recreational drug use, but medication use as well. These can also be used to determine if someone is an alcoholic, as long-term alcohol use may be determined through a blood test.
Saliva drug tests are a little more expensive than a urine test, but are less than a hair follicle test. These becoming popular because they are easy to administer. They tend to mimic the results that one would receive from a blood test. They are also harder to cheat on.
Sweat tests are relatively new tests involving a patch. The individual must wear the patch for a specific period of time. The test may give a false reading and the use of this test is often controversial. These tests may be able to detect a variety of different substances that would not trigger other tests that are currently being used. If a drug is used for longer than a week, the sweat test may be positive, while a urine test is negative.
The final type of test is a fingernail analysis. These tests utilize fingernail clippings that are analyzed similar to that of hair follicles. This test is not commonly used as it is an expensive test. It is even more expensive for people to cheat on as they must have their fingernails and cuticles tested and then order special detox kits that cost a few hundred dollars.

A healthy, balanced diet has lots of benefits, including feeling better and looking better. Many fruits and vegetables, including berries, tomatoes and broccoli, contain phytochemicals, which improve cognitive functions and prevent disease. And Vitamin C, found in citrus fruits, helps us to handle stress better in addition to helping us fight off colds. Breathe-Exhaling relieves stress, clears the lungs, increases mental focus and contracts the abdomen. You can actually tone the belly by learning to breathe properly. Drink in Excess-Water rinses cell wastes, blood poisons and environmental toxins from the body. Try flat mineral water, or organic herbal teas. For an electrolyte boost, try wheat grass juice. Take calcium with magnesium in a 1 to 1 ratio daily. Adding 500 3,000 mgs of ester C with rose hips promotes absorption, and repairs cell damage.

Middle-aged weight gain, which tends to settle around our middle, is particularly dangerous because it increases the risk of stroke and heart disease. Stop Over-Exfoliating-Peeling, burning, and abrading the skin refines its appearance, but it can also weaken the skins immunity. Calcium is important for more than Just Strong Bones. Strength training is particularly beneficial to us. At age 40, we begin to lose muscle mass each year, slowly becoming weaker. But strength training can rebuild lost muscle mass and make bones stronger, which is particularly important for post-menopausal women. It also improves your balance, helps you to sleep better and helps your heart. Taking steps to reduce stress also will help keep your brain functioning well as stress affects our memory and ability to learn new things.

Stay Forever Young

1. Eat a balanced, healthy diet, including five helpings of fruits and vegetables a day.

2. Dont consume empty calories from snacks like chips and candy bars.

3. Shed extra weight.

4. Never skip a meal; distribute calories equally among meals.

5. Strength train to rebuild your muscle mass and keep your bones strong.

6. Adopt healthy habits; its never to late to stop smoking.

7. Drink alcohol in moderation.

8. Reduce stress; it accelerates the bodys aging process and kills memory.

One of the more common treatments for high blood pressure are ACE inhibitors. When your kidneys detect low blood pressure, they release an enzyme called renin, which stimulates the formation of a protein called angiotensin I. Angiotensin I is then converted by the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in the lungs to a very potent chemical called angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a powerful blood vessel constrictor that causes muscles surrounding the blood vessels to contract, resulting in narrowing of the blood vessels. This narrowing of the vessels increases pressure in the vessels and can result in high blood pressure .

The ACE Inhibitors block the action of the angiotensin-converting enzyme in the lungs so that angiotensin I is not converted into angiotensin II. This allows blood vessels to remain widened, which results in lowering of the blood pressure. ARBs block the action of angiotensin II itself, so that vessels dilate, making it easier for the heart to pump blood, and results in lower blood pressure .

The natural bioactive casein hydrolysate tripeptides in Melaleucas ProStolic act as a natural blocker to the formation of angiotensin II. Also included in this proprietary blend is pomegranate juice powder, which inhibits activity of the angiotensin-converting enzyme as well. A third ingredient is passionflower extract. Although researchers dont know exactly how passionflower works, they believe that flavonoid and alkaloid compounds in the plant regulate the neurotransmitters in your nervous system that reduce anxiety. One of these flavonoids in particular, chrysin, helps to calm your central nervous system and lower your blood pressure.

Combined with the proprietary blend of tripeptides, pomegranate juice powder and passion flower extract, ProStolic also contains potassium and calcium to provide a well-rounded natural remedy to help promote healthy blood flow and naturally maintain healthy blood pressure, but without the side effects so common with medications.

Tripeptides are formed when milk casein is broken down into smaller pieces. Several different peptides have been studied, but a significant amount of research has determined that the tripeptides Isoleucine-Proline-Proline (IPP) and Valine-Proline-Proline (VPP) have the most supportive evidence for their efficacy, safety and bioavailability
The natural bioactive hydrolyzed casein (a combination of tripeptides IPP and VPP) is an active ingredient included in the proprietary blend in Melaleucas ProStolic. These tripeptides are derived from nonfat milk casein, and have been clinically proven to help maintain healthy blood pressure. Most studies show that blood pressure is lower after 2 weeks of daily consumption of IPP and VPP, and reach a stable level after 4-6 weeks.

Like the mechanism of action of the commonly prescribed ACE Inhibitors, the natural action of tripeptides block the formation of Angiotensin II, which normally causes the blood vessels to narrow. But thats where the similarity ends. Studies show that IPP and VPP tripeptides accomplish the blockage of Angiotensin II without the side effects so common in ACE and ARB medications. In 2001, an 8-week placebo-controlled, double-blind study was conducted on 30 people with mild or moderate hypertension. Results of the study showed a significant decrease in blood pressure of IPP and VPP test subjects, but no change was seen in the placebo group. In addition, no adverse reactions such as dry cough, digestive tract symptoms or abnormal changes were observed.

Over 20 human clinical trials have been conducted with the IPP and VPP peptides over the past 10 years and more than 10 double-blind clinical studies have been conducted on the particular formulation of tripeptides used in Melaleucas proprietary blend. A 1996 placebo-controlled study on the blood pressure of 30 elderly hypertensive patients, most of whom were taking antihypertensive medication, showed a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure after 4 and 8 weeks, but no significant changes were observed in the placebo group.

A British Journal of Nutrition article reported a single blinded, placebo controlled study of 131 people with high-normal blood pressure or mild hypertension to determine the efficacy of hydrolyzed casein containing IPP and VPP in reducing blood pressure. The authors concluded that these peptides could assist in the prevention of hypertension in people with blood pressure that is above normal.

Melaleucas Prostolic also contains other natural hypertension treatments including pomegranate juice, passion flower, potassium and calcium. All the benefits of these natural ingredients will be discussed in Natural Therapy for Maintaining Healthy Blood Pressure Part 3.

Our bodies use carbohydrates for energy. They are, in fact, the main energy source. We can obtain them from a variety of foods including dairy, veggies, fruits, and breads.

The chemical composition of carbs is made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. They include one or more simple sugars in their make-up.

Sugar composition of carbs can be one or more of:

~ Monosaccharides are single molecule sugars: galactose (milk mainly), glucose (blood sugar), and fructose (fruit sugar)

~ Disaccharides: 2 monosaccharides linked together as in sucrose (table sugar), lactose (milk sugar), and maltose (malt sugar)

~ Polysaccharides: Complex Carbohydrates, which are simple sugars linked together in different ways

The last one, complex carbohydrates, are the ones that your body breaks down slowly for energy. They are a vital part of a healthy diet. They assimilate slowly, have a lower effect on blood sugar, are less processed than other carbs and provide a variety of other nutrients.

Please keep these points in mind when choosing your complex carbohydrates:

~ Choose organic foods as much as possible

~ Whole grains, not refined. This strips essential nutrients.

~ Leave the nutritious skin on your fruits and vegetables

~ Have a no to low intake of refined sugars such as cakes & cookies

~ That goes for refined complex carbs as well, such as white breads, flours, and chips

Complex carbohydrates provide you with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Your body needs them! Stock up and begin a healthier lifestyle with fruits, veggies, legumes and whole grains!

A nutritionists point of view

Folic acid (C19H19N7O6), also known as pteroyl-L-glutamic acid, Vitamin M, folate, folinic acid, folacin etc., is a water soluble compound which is better known as vitamin B9 to normal people who live outside chemistry Labs! It is found mostly in leafy green vegetables like kale and spinach, orange juice, and enriched grains.

Several studies have shown that it is necessary for the synthesis of adenine and thymine residues, two of the four monomers that make up our DNA the inheritable genetic polymer that defines us as humans! Our body needs folic acid essentially to make new cells & perform basic life functions of DNA replication & transcription. Moreover, Adenine makes up a very significant molecule for biological systems the ATP the Energy Currency of the cell! This emphasizes the importance of folic acid for women who are either planning pregnancy or those who are in their early pregnancy. They should have proper amount of folic acid in their diet for proper development of the infant. Needless to say, the deficiency of folic acid may lead to infant developmental complications galore!

Various levels of folic acid have been proposed for a healthy body. According to the guidelines of RDA, the essential amount of dietary folic Acid varies with an individuals sex & also with his/her age group. Kindly refer to the table below:

Age (years)
1~3 4~8 9~13 14 During pregnancy late pregnancy
Men 150g 200g 300g 400g
Women 150g 200g 300g 400g 600 g 500 g

Now, since dietary habits vary at large across the globe, it is sometimes difficult to keep up with the required amounts of folic acid in daily diet. Due to its crucial role in the metabolic & genetic functions of our bodies & fortification against several diseases, we simply cant blame our dietary habits & stay ignorant. Broadly, dietary supplements may include:
Enriched breads
Fortified cereals,
Enriched Fruits & Vegetables
Protein supplements (they usually have ample vitamins too!)
Convenience Foods

Sources of Folic Acid:

ENRICHED BREADS: All kinds of breads, rolls, muffins, tortillas, bagels, pizza rust, and waffles etc.
GRAINS: Rice, pasta, bulgur, barley, millet.
FORTIFIED CEREALS: These are the excellent sources of folic acid and generally provide around 25% of the daily requirements of folic acid.
FRUITS: Orange juice, canned Pineapple juice, Papaya, Blackberries, Strawberries, Mustard greens, Broccoli, Corn (fresh frozen or canned), Beets, sprouts, Parsnips, Okra.
VEGETABLES: Spinach, raw, Celery, Swiss chard, cooked, Cauliflower, Tomato juice, Cantaloupe, casaba or honeydew melon, Baked Green or wax beans, Italian green beans, raw Cabbage.
BEANS: Cranberry beans, Lentils, Pink beans, Adzuki beans, Black beans, Great Northern beans, Navy beans/white beans, Pinto beans, , Kidney beans, Soybeans, Lima beans.
PEAS: Black-eyed peas or cowpeas, Chickpeas, Pigeon peas, Split peas, Tofu, Peanuts, Peanut butter.
PROTEIN FOODS: Egg, Liver oil, Yeast extract.
CONVENIENCE FOODS: Instant Breakfast, Bean with bacon soup, Chili with beans, Refried beans, Pork and beans or baked beans, Spaghetti sauce, Lentil soup, Black bean soup, Bean burrito, Frozen waffle.

Folic acid tends to be lost or modified during food preparation, cooking, or storage. So, care must be taken while preparing meals. To retain folic acids:
Steam, boil, or simmer vegetables in a minimal amount of water.
Serve fruits and vegetables raw whenever possible.
Store vegetables in a cool and dry place.
